IBM 1401
IBM's 1401 system - pioneered, built, and programed in Plant #1, Endicott, NY - changed the way the world does business. The age of data-driven decision making begins when businesses large and small can afford electronic computers and output reports printed on-the-fly. Of the 10,000 IBM 1401 systems delivered in the 1960s, about a dozen survive. Of these, one system at History@IBM, Boeblingen, Germany, two systems at the Computer History Museum, Mountain View, CA, and TechWorks! system are operational.
